As living expenses soar, but salaries and wages stay the same, more people are looking to supplement their earnings just to make ends meet.
One of the most popular ways to earn extra money is to engage in online work.
Just surf the web and you’ll find lots of opportunities being offered.
Many of these so-called opportunities are scams, but knowing which ones are legitimate can help you decide what path you should take to make extra money online.
If you’re a crafty person, you can sell your creations on a site such as Etsy.
Etsy provides a way to showcase your items by providing you with an online store, and you’ll only have to pay 20 cents to list an item for four months.
Joining Etsy is free, but when you sell an item, you’ll be automatically charged a 3.5 percent commission.
Do you have a talent such as design or writing?
If so, check out sites such as Fiverr where you list your specific talent and buyers can engage you to do a service for them.
The charge is $5, and Fiverr keeps $1. It may not seem like much, but can really add up when you begin to rake in the short assignments.
Retired teachers or those who have skills in math, English, history and other subjects can tutor children and adults online.
There are sites, such as Tutor.com, where you can sign up as an independent freelance tutor.
Another way to make money online is to launch a blog – especially if you have lots of knowledge on a particular subject or have something to say that you think others need or want to hear.
As your readers grow in number, you can post ads that will bring in extra income (through commission).
Many small – and large – companies are outsourcing through the Internet to save money from hiring a full time employee when they only need someone for a specific amount of time and to keep from renting office space or providing heath insurance.
This offers many opportunities for those who want to supplement their incomes from working online.
There are also sites for freelancers and those interested in working as a freelance employee.
Working online can be a great way to boost your income and it may lead to other opportunities that can help you quit your full time job and work at home full time.
One of the best things about working at home is that you can usually set your own hours.
This helps those who have small children or a full time job that is physically and mentally demanding.
It lets you earn extra money to make ends meet or to afford a few luxuries.
